The 2024-25 school year will mark Gene Baker's 16th year as a secondary school athletic director, which has also included 8 years oversight of primary and middle school athletics. Prior to his career in high school athletic administration, Baker served for 18 years as Head Baseball Coach at Bristol College, the University of Northern Iowa, Guilford College, and the University of Louisville where his teams posted nearly 400 wins and played in four conference championship games.

Baker's life in athletics began at an early age with participation on youth football and basketball teams as well as batting cleanup on two New York State champion baseball teams. In high school he was a 3 sport letterman in football, baseball, and basketball, earning all conference accolades at Arlington High School where he was named the school's Outstanding Athlete following his senior year and is a proud member of the Athletic Hall of Fame.
Following high school, Baker focused on baseball at the collegiate level gaining recognition as an All Conference designated hitter and Academic All American catcher at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee.
Despite his success as a player and coach, Baker has found his true athletic niche in mentoring, directing, and supporting coaches and student-athletes at the middle and high school levels. His teams have won innumerable conference, district and region titles while securing twelve state championships in eight different sports, at four different schools in three different states.
Building the athletic program at Global is Baker's current challenge and he enjoys his daily efforts in exposing Global student-athletes to all the benefits that participation in competitive sports can provide them.
